Turbo 350/400 verses a Glide

2500 lbs or less Power Glide verses a Turbo 350/400, when I got up there in age " All-timers ! I slowed down on my reflexes and shifting, some times I just forgot to shift !!... so I went to a automatic transmission, with a Air Shifter, well the Old rule of thumb is under 2500 lbs a power Glide will ( most of the Time ) out run a 350/400 turbo, ( less shifting ) makes for a faster ET ! it worked for Me !
......... What was I talking about any how ????

I have been spoiled by the glides also I have my best 60 ft with a 1.82 glide but dollar for dollar the 1.76 is stronger !!!

For some strange reason this seems to be true at almost any horsepower level, the converter is still the most importantant piece of the puzzle in 2 or 3 speeds. If ya follow Rockys advice an yer junk ain;t 60fting ya prolly need a better matched converter.

I couldnt agree more... If you add more nitrous I heard that the 60 ft will improve too. maybe try that... or just run at sunset and you wont know what your 60 ft time is???

The Pglide has either 1.76 -1 or 1.82-1 first gear ratio Turbo 350 has 2.52-1 first 1.52-1 second1.00-1 third Turbo 400 has 2.48-1 first 1.48-1 second 1.00-1 third these are stock ratio,s you can get custom ratio,s but they are expensive for my pocket anyway lol. Because of the glides first gear ratio,s it wants a light car and is also friendly for small tires that also fit my budget. Just remember that Pglides are like taking off in second compared to the turbos so weight of the vehicle is critical and like Mr Z says the converter is the most important part of any automatic.If I could run a stick on the same budget as an auto that would take the same abuse I would but I have trashed enough manuals to last me a lifetime lol

I learned something from the guys down at J.W. trans. in Fla. race powerglides come without a converter bushing installed and when you buy a converter it needs an internal bushing so when purchasing a glide and converter check to make sure you have a bushing in the trans or the converter if you dont it will show in about thirty passes trust me I know !

I'll stick withh my 200-4r,2.74 1st gear, 1.572nd gear,1 to 1 3rd gear 0.67 overdrive. 75mph is 2200 rpm with the convertor locked.

In theory if i run my car in overdrive to the 5500 RPM redline the car should go 178.86 MPH ,anyone want to follow me on a long open road?

I'm no Nascar driver, the time it would take you to get to 178mph I would loose my courage, i like to run it up quick an get out of it. My ZO6 could verify if we didn't have to go from 100-178 in an hour.
